PREMIER database on environmental risk assessment of pharmaceuticals launched
The Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI) project ‘Prioritisation and risk evaluation of medicines in the environment’ (PREMIER) has launched its database on environmental risk assessment of pharmaceuticals. The PREMIER database is an open platform to support science-based decisions during the assessment of potential risks of pharmaceuticals in the aquatic environment. ECT is involved in PREMIER as partner and has contributed to the development of the database by providing research data and feedback on scientific aspects of the database structure and content.
The PREMIER database has been developed in cooperation of academic institutions, pharmaceutical industry, and regulatory bodies, made possible by funding from the EU Innovative Health Initiative and data sharing of EFPIA partners. It is a web-based publicly accessible platform, free of charge, and designed to support research, inform decisions, and facilitate access to reliable, up-to-date data on pharmaceuticals that can enter the environment. The PREMIER database is currently available in a beta version. It will be expanded with additional data and an environmental risk assessment module, resulting in a Digital Assessment System (DAS) for pharmaceuticals.
For further information on the PREMIER database, see here; the database is available here.
