New publication: Survival, reproduction, growth, and parasite resistance of aquatic organisms exposed to wastewater treated by advanced treatment processes
Advanced wastewater treatment processes are known to be an effective tool for reducing micropollutant discharge into the aquatic environment. Nevertheless, some processes such as ozonation result in stable transformation products with often unknown toxicity. In the present study, effluents from different steps of advanced treatment were compared for their aquatic toxicity. Lumbriculus variegatus, Daphnia magna […]
Report published on ‘Assessment of environmental persistence’
A literature study was performed to review the applicability of established and new tests for biodegradability for assessing persistence in the frame of PBT and vPvB assessments under REACH. Screening tests for ready and inherent biodegradability, proposals for enhanced ready tests as well as newly designed compartment-specific screening tests were analysed for strengths and weaknesses, […]

On 01 February 2017, Dr. Anja Coors has been appointed as honorary visiting fellow in the Environment Department of the University of York, UK. This appointment will deepen and further develop the cooperation with the research group of Prof. Alistair Boxall…
New publication: Integrated evaluation concept to assess the efficacy of advanced wastewater treatment processes
In cooperation with several partners, a multidisciplinary concept was developed for assessing the efficacy of advanced wastewater treatment methods for removal of micropollutants. This concept integrates (1) chemical parameters (the removal of selected indicator substances and the formation of transformation products), (2) ecotoxicological parameters (the assessment of ecotoxicity using in vitro tests), and (3) microbiological […]
Reports published: Harmonisation of environmental exposure assessment for veterinary pharmaceuticals and biocides
The aim of the present project was to further develop a draft test guideline for an experimental method to study the transformation of veterinary pharmaceuticals and biocides in cattle and pig liquid manure, and to validate it in an international inter-laboratory comparison (ring test).
