About ECT
ECT Oekotoxikologie GmbH was founded as a privately owned, independent enterprise in 1993, and joined the SynTech Research Group in November 2021.
In compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), we perform standardised ecotoxicological tests in the laboratory as well as at semi-field and field level.

Validation of a method to measure bioaccumulation in terrestrial organisms by means of an international ring test
The aim of the project was the validation of a bioaccumulation test with terrestrial organisms (soil dwelling oligochaetes) by an international ring test. The test method was developed taking into account existing methods (UBA-reports 206 03 909 (1997) and 298 64 416 (2001)). A test protocol was prepared and used to run the test. A […]
Supply of dung beetles for the performance of a ring test as a precondition for the implementation of an OECD Guidance Document
The objective of this project sponsored by the German Federal Environment Agency was the improvement of existing laboratory tests with dung beetles and dung flies. It was aimed at identifiying a second dung beetle species for standardised laboratory tests that should belong to the ecological group of ‘tunnelers’. However, it was not possible to establish […]
Development of a standardised laboratory test with dung beetles for the assessment of the ecotoxicity of veterinary pharmaceuticals
According to European law, the environmental risk assessment of veterinary pharmaceuticals for dung beetles is required for parasiticides for the treatment of pasture animals. Starting with recommendations from the SETAC advisory group DOTTS (Dung Organism Toxicity Test Standardisation), a test system using the widespread temperate dung beetle species Aphodius constans was developed. Together with the […]
Organisation and performance of an international ringtest for the validation of the enchytraeid reproduction test
An enchytraeid reproduction test ring test was performed in line with OECD requirements. Twenty-nine institutions (mainly universities and contract research laboratories) from 15 countries from Europe and North America participated in this ring test. The co-ordinating laboratory centrally distributed the test chemicals, guidance papers and test organisms to all participants. In addition, several training courses […]
Hardly soluble active ingredients of cosmetics – ecotoxicology and substitution
The aim of this project was to develop tools and to experimentally verify proposed assessment schemes such as the ‘poorly soluble approach‘ in order to enable a better assessment of highly lipophilic substances. In the context of a PhD project, selected highly lipophilic compounds present in personal care products (e.g. cosmetics) were investigated. ECT played […]
